Texas is home to some of our nation's oldest flea markets. "First Monday Trade Days" in Canton, Texas, traces its history to the 1850s, making it the strongest candidate for the oldest continuously operating flea market in the United States. What began as a monthly trading gathering around the Van Zandt County courthouse eventually grew into a massive market that now attracts thousands of vendors and shoppers from across the country.

2. Weatherford First Monday Trade Days
Weatherford First Monday Trade Days dates back to 1858, when residents gathered around the Parker County courthouse for what was originally known as "Stray Day." The tradition continues today as an open-air market with antiques, collectibles, crafts, food, and other merchandise.

Rice's Sale & Country Market traces its history to 1860, when A.L. Rice began holding auctions for his own goods and items belonging to neighboring farmers. The San Jose Flea Market, also known as the Berryessa Flea Market, opened in March 1960 with around 20 sellers and 100 customers. Founder George Bumb reportedly got the idea after noticing how many usable items were being thrown away and believing there should be a place where people could resell them. The market grew into one of the country's most famous large-scale flea markets, with generations of vendors and shoppers passing through its grounds.
